POLL SHIFT: Reps reject motion to summon Jega.
The House of Representatives on Wednesday rejected a motion to summon the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission,Prof. Attahiru Jega, over the postponement of the earlier scheduled February 14 poll.
The motion, which was moved by House Deputy Majority Leader,Mr Leo Ogor ,failed in a voice vote at the session presided over by speaker,mr Aminu Tambuwal.
Ogor, who is from Delta State ,had told the House that INEC Postponed the elections to march 28 owing to security challenges.
But,he noted that there was still the need to hear from Jega on whether INEC was really prepared for the elections on the rescheduled date.
"Mr speaker,we have to invite the INEC chairman to know how prepared they are for the elections," he stated.
When Tambuwal put the motion to vote,it failed in a resounding voice vote.
The motion failed about the time Jega appeared before the Senate to answer questions on the readiness of his commission for the elections.
while the motion on Jega failed, another motion seeking to debate the role of the military in elections was endorsed by members.
The motion on the military, which was moved by the Minority Leader,Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, succeeded in the APC dominated legislature.
