COURT BARS SUDANESE PRESIDENT FROM LEAVING S'AFRICA

A South African High Court in pretoria on Sunday issued an interim order preventing Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir,from leaving the country over alleged war crime related charges. The  presiding judge,Justice Hans Fabricius,while postponing the hearing of the case till Monday (today) ,urged the south African authorities to "take all necessary steps" to prevent Bashir from leaving. The order was made upon a request by the international Criminal Court demanding the arrest of Bashir,who was first indicted in 2009. ICC had accused the sudanese president of crimes against humanity and genocide during the Darfur conflict which claimed hundreds of lives and displaced millions of people. The United Nations said about 400,000 people died and more than two million fled their home since rebel took up arms in 2003. 2,537 CANDIDATES FROM 28 PARTIES BATTLE FOR N'ASSEMBLY SEATS.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has stated that 2,537 candidates from 28 political parties will contest election to fill the 469 seats in the senate and the House of Representatives in the Saturday election.

TROOPS RECAPTURE BOKO HARAM HQ,GWOZA

The Director of defence information ,Maj . Gen. Chris Olukolade,has said the troops of the Nigerian Army have captured Gwoza,the headquarters of the Islamic Caliphate,declared by the Boko Hara insurgents in the North-East. Olukolade said in a statement in Abuja on Friday that the  city fell to a joint operation carried out by the Nigerian Air Force on Friday morning. Several ground forces were deployed from Madagali in Adamawa state and Bama in Borno for the crucial operation to reclaim Gwoza,which the insurgents captured and renamed Darul Hikima last year. Buhari escapes disqualification

A federal high court in Abuja on Wednesday adjourned till april 22 and 23, all the suits challenging the eligibility of the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari,to contest in the march 28 poll. By implication,the court will not make any judicial pronoucement on Buharis eligibility till after the march 28 and April 11 elections.
